They already own 10%...I don't think Yahoo has enough money. :)

>10%

I vaguely remember the first buy-in as being 5%, were there other deals?

There's no way yahoo could buy google, buying inktomi is an attempt to stay in the game but unless they come out with something spectacular yahoo's days are numbered.

Yahoo put Inktomi search on the map. Maybe they wanted to buy them them a couple years ago but the price was too high, thanks to Yahoo themselves.

So maybe there was more to the Yahoo/Google story than meets the eye. Maybe it was Yahoo's plan all along to strip Inktomi of it's Yahoo jewels by using Google, then buy Inktomi for chump change later. A dollar and some change per share is a much better price than a couple hundred dollars per share, isn't it?

Yahoo's days are not over.
They have been the only reliable thing on the internet, and buying Inktomi proves that they are in for the long run. (personally I have hoped they would buy fast)

Go Yahoo!

(I'm a bit carried away - I got more than 30 Yahoo listings)

Remember, Yahoo (or anyone else for that matter) could only buy Google if Google wanted to be bought.

Considering that Google could have already made a killing by issuing an IPO, it's very unlikely that Yahoo could ever give them enough money to change their minds.

RCJ- quoting myself here - [webmasterworld.com...]

That was in the top spot on google for 'yahoo owns 10% of google'...and I saw it on a few other sites...

I could be mistaken - then and now - but the number seems right...

It looks to me Yahoo wants Google:) but at a cheaper price than what Google thinks it is worth;)

no, yahoo won't get google... ever... also what would they be accomplishing. They already partially googlized their directory...
on the other hand look at all the once million companies Yahoo has just plain bought out I think for not a very good strategic reason: HotJobs, Launch.com, Geocities, (now Inktomi), i forget all the others. But still i think yahoo has no chance with google.

I dont think yahoos days are as limited as we think. Most users probably see the search as an ad on feature that is "just there"

The majority of users I think go there for rmail ,chat, finance etc. Yahoo's business plan seams to embrace this with the new added sevices it has added such as the larger mail accounts.
