If you have your own ecomm site. Is it worth it to setup a Yahoo shopping site to bring in some extra income.

In other words, is the base of users on Yahoo shopping, and the user conversion ratio, good enought to support a sister site, if you already have a good home grown ecomm site already.

Or is Yahoo.com, a place for suckers who did not have the skill or money to design their own website, and are paying a heavy price in fees.

This was never an issue in the past, as we had a Canadian only site, and yahoo.com would not allow us to join. But now with a US mail forwarding address, we can join Yahoo.com, where I suspect that yahoo.ca did not have a large enough base to worry about.

Hmm.. that's an interesting question, especially with the birth of Froogle and the fact that it seems to be picking up the Yahoo sites.

Can anyone give us an informed opinion on this?

I planned to use the site to sell our products which have a high turnover, excellent profit margin and few direct competitors. I plan no link to my own ecomm site to avoid any issues with cookies and the 3.5% revenue sharring from being caried over to our regular site.

For all intent and purposes, it will look like a separate company.

Its really going to be designed for people who are confortable with yahoo.shopping and who rarely buys somewhere else. I hear that yahoo.shopping has excellent conversion rates.

Ok....I'll wade in. I set up one up as a sister site to my main site about a year ago just for kicks. Compared to my main site the income it produces is minimal, but enough that I keep it up and running. The traffic from Y! shopping converts at least twice as well as other search engine traffic, the problem is, there is not enough of it.

Give it a shot, it doesnt cost a whole lot to roll the dice and if it doesn't work out for you, shut 'er down.

I think I will give it a try. It will be a great way to test price points to conversion ratio, without having a negative impact on my regular ecomm site.

Let us know how you go Ign, I don't have the time just now, but could do it early in the New Year if it turns out OK.

Best of luck
