How do I recognize the effects of the 27th June problem?

I'm new to Google serps. My site appeared to have come out of the sandbox after 04 June 2006. It was moving up nicely till it reached a high of #76. No changes major changes were done to the site but after July 01, it started going down and is now at #255!

I wrote a blog entry for a third party blog based on my keywords category <edited> and found that this blog entry quickly shot up to #10 then slid into oblivion after 2 weeks.

I've noticed a lot of other sites moving up and down too... so much so I do not know where to start to check if anything is wrong with my site. Could this be the effects of the June 27 problem of am I simply new and going through the google motions?

<Sorry, no specific keywords.

I had in April 2004 a similar mad situation.

My client dropped with his main keyword out of sight.

I arranged, that he gave a donation for a development aid project and wrote on of my sites about it.

This was suddenly with his main keywords on place 5, his optimized site not in first 100.

I wrote about the incident in a discussion forum.
The article in the discussion forum ranked suddenly before my article about his donation, his site still out of sight.
