From Matt Cutts [mattcutts.com...]

---------------------------
Bontar, I believe any changes on the 27th were refreshing data used by an existing algorithm.
---------------------------

From the sites I run and what I have seen in the SERPs he is referring to the Trustrank algorithm. Now either Trustrank is updated infrequently as opposed to PageRank which is updated continuously or they have started using a new set of initial trusted seeds.

I think you may have a point here.

My 12 month olds site moved into the top 5 for all of my main keywords. I have also moved to the 1st page for loads of other smaller keywords, for which i have not gain many links.

I have got around 10 links from very high authority sites on pages that are related. during the last 5 months.

If Trust Rank was upgraded say 2 times per year then this would fit in with these links i have gained.

My site has obviously gained some kind of better trust rank since the 27th and this is why i am ranking very well for the smaller keywords, some of which have no links pointing to the pages execpt internal ones.

For my main keyword i am now ranked #3 out of 10 million sites.
The # 1 site has been around since 1998
The # 2 site been around since 2000 and has 5 goverment links
All the site below me have been around along time from between 1999 & 2002

I think you may have a point here.

I do not think so.

My main site is up sine April 1997 and has gained links from high trusted sites since 1997.

All the links are still there, but lost over 90% of visitors on 27th June.

here's the thing....how long does it take to update data across 1000's of hard drives?

did the data refresh of the 27th happen over night? Do you see the conundrum?

let me ask you something...is a data refresh in googles eyes a generic term or specifically a true refresh of data?

how is it that a totally new bit of data causes a site to fall to the EXACT positions it held in former serps...

is the twighlight zone really just a tv show?

:)
