I haven't paid much attention to Google for a while so perhaps this is something old. However, as far as I was aware the title for each results was taken from the title tag.

I have just had a client notify that there title tag is not what it should be. The site hasn't been updated for a couple of years at least and I don't think it even had this title back then. The only answer I can think of is that inbound link text is being used for this title as I did manage to find a link carrying an exact match.

Is this old news? Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks

But it could also be that title your client is seeing is the DMOZ one! Have you checked that?

I've also noticed my titles changing and it's not just from the DMOZ listing.

If I search for 'mywidget' (which also happens to be part of the domain name) the result just shows 'mywidget' as the site description. This isn't the page title, DMOZ description or meta tag.

If I then search for 'mywidget keyword' then the google description changes to the full title tag of the page?!

Others have mentioned seeing changes happening with the google description, I guess google are trying something...
