Ranking in UK for US based site

How to rank high in UK?

I recently noticed that the google.co.uk version of my keywords has extremely low competition. In fact it's almost non-existent but is very competitive at google.com searches.

What are the basic things I could do to rank in UK searches for a .com domain?

My guess would be to get links from .co.uk sites or other sites that rank for broader keywords of my site in UK google searches.

Do I need to buy a .co.uk of my domain and build a new site around it?

If your target audience is the UK, then get the .co.uk domain, and 301 from your current domain.

Generally, a site that has neither UK name nor UK host will not do well in UK serps; they are built for UK sites, and yours, er, isn't!

I have .co.uk sites hosted in the US that do just fine.

You should try a co-branding idea, Get a .co.uk, host it in the uk and mention you deal with the uk on your pages.

Then try targeting as usual and soon you should have a website in both UK & USA - also if its a shop people would be more willing to buy from you if you mention that you deal with the uk...

I think there is a META tag option thats allows you to tell googlebot your website country and language.
Most people are willing to sell worldwide which is why many advertise and feature their ad in many countries.

A .co.uk MAY help - but I aint entirely sure.
Include 'UK@ keywords in the site Title in places.
