Is it an overnight leap or a gradual climb?

i'm no authority, but i think it usually occurs in a small series of fairly substantial tiers

A site I have came out of the sandbox about this time last year. I have just been reviewing the stats over the last 20 months. They show Right Reading's assertion that there are a "small series of fairly substantial tiers" is correct. In my experience anyway.

I have a 1.5 year old site coming out of the sandbox and it's been a gradual improvement over the span of a few months.

I had a site started in July 2005, came out in December O5 after working on the links in the August. Did not go too mad, just ensured we had a few healthy links, but did not want to look like we were trying too hard.

It was pretty much an overnight result. Obviously as we all know you can get into google within a week but are NOWHERE for any decent keywords at first. Only obscure phrases and not the competitive ones.

Then 1 month you are suddenly in the game.

Since then we increased from around #55 to our current #16 position, although again we saw a significant jump in one month, I think it was April this year.

I really need to find time to get some more links, but it is a secondary website, so always too busy on other stuff!

if anyone is interested... i managed to keep a screen shot diary of an old client that went through the entire sandbox phenomenon.

the whole process was very interesting to say the least. sticky me, if you'd like to know more.
