No of Indexed Pages slowing going down. Should I be worried

When I use the site command I have always seen a much larger total number of pages listed than what we actually have. Typically it has shown 100,000, but we only actually have about 30,000.

Since about a week ago, this total has slowly been reducing, currently about 60,000

Has anyone else seen this, should I be worried?

Regards,

Simon.

Only if your actual search traffic is also slowing down, I would say.

that's been happening to loads of people on here, i think. it happened to me to. mine got all the way down to just the homepage indexed. it stayed like that for about two months, but a couple of weeks ago it jumped up and has been rising ever since.
all i did in the meantime was work on my links. getting some more quality backlinks. maybe you can try that.

My page count has also been rising. I find this to be the single most important factor in Google sending me traffic. In the datacenter thread they seem to focus on the different flavours of results on specific keywords. I see little difference in the number of referrals from different SERP flavours. The results for the 'site:' operator is the most important thing and correlates beautifully with the amount of traffic I pull from Google. In other threads, a lot of people have said that the 'site' operator is broken, etc. For me it's always been and still is the most relevant tool in measuring traffic from Google. I wish there would be more discussion on it since I'm no expert.

who else is getting a lot of Googlebot activity? So far, I have gotten 2200 visits for a 1500 or so page (I have a masked, outbound link for each page too).

Activity has been at ~ 200 a day for the past 2 months, yet rankings are in a toilet for this site.
