Have Google SERPs stagnated? New backlinks having no effect.

It seems to me that the SERPs have stayed pretty much the same for the last month or two apart from some index changes. It seems that backlinks gained within the last month or two are having little or no effect i.e. have not been factored into the algo. I have gained many backlinks in this period and despite the pages that contain the backlinks being indexed they are not making any difference to ranking.

I'm guessing we are due a backlink update maybe around the time Mr. Cutts gets back from vacation. Is anybody else disappointed with the effect of backlinks gained within the last month or two?

The current SERPs are not nearly as influenced by links as in the recent past. Google uses a LOT of factors these days and the day of links being the one and only approach to get Google rankings are fading.

Also, I think links need to accumulate some history now before they weigh in at full force.

Agree. The higher the PR, the longer it takes for the effects to show in my limited experience.

I call it the vintage wine approach.. the finer links need to age and mature.

Yes, I've noticed the same.

I'm curious about your experience, shri. How long for a PR7-8 link, to your mind? I gained a high PR7 link two months ago.

I'm curious too - about how long does it take for a typical link to get factored in? Days, weeks, months?

That's good - it means I still have a few good ones that haven't been factored in yet!
