Last week Google has a snafu in the Sitemaps area where it was mistakingly saying the robots.txt was restricting files when it wasn't. They fessed up about it on the sitemaps blog and said it would be fixed when they next visited the site.

The erroneous reports were dated as April 25, 2006 on a bunch of pages including the home page. At the time, the last time I'd been visited (according to Sitemaps) was April 27, 2006.

Then yesterday, when I logged into sitemaps I saw that the latest date I'd been visited by Googlebot was May 1, 2006. However the incorrect robots entries were still there.

Today when I log in it says I was last visited on April 25, 2006 and the incorrect entries are still there.

As far as I can see these snafus haven't affected my ranking (so far), and I'm assuming the errors will disappear eventually. However this problem may be symtomatic of the other issues that are getting reported on this board at the moment.

Someone said in this forum, sometime in the last few days, that the processing of their Sitemap was running several days behind the date that the new data was actually grabbed, and for high volume traffic sites that no data was available. Some bottleneck in their system?
