Noted Google engineer Matt Cutts has started a FAQ like site to detail some of the more interesting search occurences and repetitive questions he gets:

not a blog the way I read it - more a FAQ Site. Certainly not fake - Got it directly from Matt himself.

wow interesting.
Sort of a confirmation on the recent scaper / dup content removal, the use of whois data, etc etc.
Ill be keeping a close eye on this one.

Assuming that Matt is using his Google algorithm knowledge, then there are a couple of interesting points for those who fear the so called "overoptimization penalties"(not to be taken too seriously, please ;-)

1)Keywords on urls: Check the super long, keyword filled urls on each "Permalink" links!

2)The filename, the title and the heading have the same prase! (Oh my God! How does he dare to do so!)

3)Content duplication: The "Travel" and "food" categories, show the same page (with a little difference on the title)

It seems that using WordPress is ok. (At least for a GoogleGuy :-)

I thought this was something funny to report that, but...

Who knows...

Enrique

Word of caution: If we all link to this site with the phrase "Matt Cutts", he won't be able to rank for his own name. ;-) Soooo, better to use a variety of phrases, e.g., "search guru," "SE expert," "search engine FAQ's," etc. Then all will be right with the world, and Matt will get more traffic too.

Very cool site Matt - thanks! Love the story about the potato salad site. hehe. Classic.

Whilst Brett's word carries heavy weight, I have some reservations. I'd like to see a link from the Google Blog or something like that, just so we know for sure...

It's safe to say this is not the first email Brett has gotten from him, so I believe it.

nice way for Matt to get one way backlinks ;)

Lots of Google employees have weblogs. There's even a site that lists them. You guys are way behind on this one :)

vincevincevince, it's not a fake site. I'm supposed to relay the request not to vandalize it too much. :)

Does any of you folks know how to post comments on Matt´s blog? or is it just there for fun ;-)

I would speculate that any automated blog "message posting" bot that had the misfortune to place information on this blog would find its footprint nuked in the G index pretty quickly.

C´mon guys give me a break ;-)

I asked about posting comments because I wish to ask Matt few questions, and not to spam his blog.

He has turned off comments and there is no email contact.

"... and there is no email contact."

I think Matt should learn from Bill Gates in the 1990s: [booknoise.net...]

Matt should make his e-mail address public so at least he doesn't look too arrogant. :)

GoogleGuy should learn too!

A good example of ONE-WAY communications at 2005! ;-)

Do you honestly believe it would be feasible for him to allow comments willy-nilly and make an email address available? Get real.

In this case, I prefer to read what my fellow member GoogleGuy write in his thread which I find of great value (talking about added value) ;-)

GG - Can you ask MC about Canonical urls - they come up a bit :) - Also Mozilla bot is still crawling but not adding pages :) - does MC have that problem with his blog?

If we all link to this site with the phrase "Matt Cutts", he won't be able to rank for his own name.

He doesn't rank on his own name now (only checked top 100), I get:

1/2. His university page
3/4. Webmasterworld
5. Blogg "Transcript du chat avac Matt Cutts"..... in French.
6. "Listed below, links to weblogs that reference Matt Cutts...."

He doesn't rank for Matt Cutts Blog either.

So bloggs rank (a French one at 5.), just not Matts blog on his own domain. I guess that dupe penalty again, Matts blog is probably scraped by several sites and his blog is likely viewed as the copy rather than the original and pushed down.

Oh Matt

Quick tip - you may want to redirect your non-www to the www - Google seems to have problems with that sometimes. :)
