Re-Directs

should I place re-directs?

I have recently created a new e-store for my website. The old e-store (static with different url string) was indexed in Google.

I would like to ween myself off of the traffic going to the old e-store.

Will Google penalize for redirects to the new store from the older pages?

Or would it make sense to put a "this site has moved" message? Obviously I would rather avoid that extra click thru!

I was looking through the site search just for 301 [searchengineworld.com] it seems like there are a ton of threads. There might be the exact answer in there that you need.
