Can someone maybe explain it again to me? I still don't get it. PR is very important to get listed higher in Google. Then why am I with PR5 still at the bottom of my search? And pages with a lower PR are listed higher? I am listed at #94 now. I need to do something to move to PR6 or PR7, but how? I'm bidding now at the sponsored links, but I cannot keep up. The biddings are getting extremely high now. It looks like a war out there. Any tips to improve my PR on a short term? More linking?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Suzanne

If you have not read this thread, you might want to do it. Quite a few members have learned something from it: [webmasterworld.com...]

But this works long term. If you want short term improvements of your traffic you may have to pay for it.

Wired Suzanne,

Google uses over 100 variables to rank sites, PR is only one of them. People who only concentrate on it are missing out on the other 99 factors :(

Read the thread that troels_nybo_nielsen pointed to, it is excellent

suzanne,

high PR is always good, but NOT the deciding factor to get you to #1 or even page 1 of the results.

many members here have shown me sites which have PR4 PR5 on page 1 competing against PR8s or 29,000 backlinked PR6s and 7s.

Yes there is a tremendous amount of things you can do to achive higher ranking.

Brett's quick good ranking [webmasterworld.com]

Is a very good thread for seeing which is the most common valuable things when a search engine ranks a page.

I would also go through the Forum library [webmasterworld.com]

There the most valuable threads are saved, and trust me if you read most of them, you will learn a lot.
