Suggestion for Google and Adult sites

I run a few adult sites (I know, I know) and like some other adult webmasters (many actually..but unfortunately not enough) that want to block children from my sites. As an adult webmaster, I feel it is my responsibility and all other adult webmasters to do the same.

I know Google has the adult filter that takes keywords and blocks adult sites when turned on. This is great, but as with everything doesn't always work.

I think Google can easily search for a meta tag that says the page/site is adult related and flag the site not to show up if the google filter is on.

I feel this could help everyone on the web.

What about ICRA [icra.org...]

Could tha work better than a Meta?

Yes, that is a great place..and works. Along with registering your site at the different blocking software companies.

But does Google see that site is registered there and is an adult site to filter it out? Or just use keywords?

Don't know for sure, and that is why I posted.

In my opinion, search engine filters are useless for blocking adult sites. Kids are computer-savvy enough to turn the "Adult filter" to "off" if they really want to find porn.

However, adults often aren't as Net-savvy as kids and many probably aren't aware of the adult filter. Some of them will be wondering where all the adult sites have gone!

I think your suggestion would only be detrimental to your industry. Adults will have a harder time finding your site, but it won't stop the kids from finding your site.

I think the basic function of search engine filters is to remove spam results (much of which is adult content). It's far better to rely on porn-blocking software like NetNanny, Cyberfilter, etc.
