Everything I have added to my site since January has disappeared

I am disgusted. The new Google update totally sc***ed my site!

I run a website similar to Snopes, collecting and commenting on Urban Legends and chain letters, in Hebrew.

Just before the March update, I saw that Google updated the index for my site every two or three days. So, I encouraged people to search Google for unique words in the Emails they get knowing they will probably find the source of the letter in my site with a discussion on its content.

Now, the last cached snapshot of my site is from January 9th.

All the content I have added to the site on the last two months is gone and cannot be found on Google. All the reputation of my site as being up-to-date is flushed down the drain! Maybe the next visit of the FreshBot will bring it all back but now I am skeptical.

Did anyone here had such experiences in the past?

Last November, Google.co.il also had some seriouse problems.

Hi Hanan

Welcome to webmasterworld :o)

Google hasn't updated yet, what you are seeing is normal pre update behaviour.

Like i said this morning, more and more people rely on google, it is effecting businesses of all sizes. The search engine google does have a large monopoly on businesses world wide. I like google personally and I am not saying this negatively about google, but there will be flak like this in the future, more of it too. So many businesses are ONLY in business online because of their rank.

As for your site simply hold your horses. The update I strongly believe on the 3rd of March (evening) noticable by March 4th, should clear a lot of proplems people are having. I have never seen so much crawling in my life.

NO offence, but anyone running a business based purely on FREE traffic from Google, should be looking at a career change.

Without a doubt it can work, but plan B, C and D must be ready, if and when the updat is not to their liking.

<-- The update I strongly believe on the 3rd of March (evening) noticable by March 4th, should clear a lot of proplems people are having -->

The update normally takes 48/72 hours (at least) to settle down across all data centers, ie if you think the update will be the 3rd then it will be at least the 6th until the update is stable.

Uhhh dood... what would happen if networksolutions.com or verisign.com or register.com became BOTTOM of the ranks, or worse whiped right off.

It would be a severe blow, and yes there are MANY businesses online that do only well because they are ranked high. People have had sites turn to gold mines after having a good rank, before they had no visitors.
Without visitors you have NOTHING zip.
think about it.

thats 3 companies who definately should be PR0.

money talks and bull**** walks.

The search/online arena is finally realising how to monetise their products to make a profit.

so business' should also be looking at making a profit, whether online/offline.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE TRAFFIC

I know the update will start to be seen on the third and will reflect on the third evening 5-7pm Atlantic Time. Ive done some VERY intensive studies and read some things from very good sources i cannot get into detail with.
You will notice fluxuation starting on the third end of the day, but it should settle down by late evening /flicker/change a couple times in the evening but stay for the most part.

I hate too sound arrogant/rude/whatever, but can not resist.

AcesHigh, cut the bull#@x& please.

There are people round here (me excluded) who know what they are talking about and have analysed it millions of times, and they can not give a definite time.

My apologies for posting this specific thread, YES I know new members and their views should be considered, and new members = new blood, and for that I am grateful, however when people talk utter crap, than thats damaging for all, especially people who have come to believe that anything posted on Webmasterworld is 100% fact.

sorry

Shak, back to you...

You are right it all depends on what the person is selling tho. Here is a true example ok?
A jewlery store in usa (somewhere) sells necklaces in their store for $30,000.
NOW...
2000 Miles away on the other coast of the USA some guy is selling the exact same bracelet for $20,000. Because he has NO overhead. He sits in a warehouse managing online sales Only, (the way its all going). He can sell the product for 10,000$ less because he has NO overhead.
These types of businesses are just beginning. This is true too it was on the news last month.
OK...
So the guy sitting in the warehouse selling these necklaces must be noticed online. Without traffic this chaps business is doomed. But with traffic, this guy is doing great cutting prices so cheap, his competitors are blown out of the water.

Without traffic, this mans doomed.
With traffic this man is doing great, and even a famous movie stars i forget who they named a few, purchased these special order necklaces.

This was on the news last month and didnt relate to "search engine placement" but more to the way businesses are going in the future. It does make sense, it is a good idea, and is very cost efficient.
They better get good ranks thats all.

If he is selling $20,000 necklaces, then he must be making "mucho dineros" and should be able to pay for his traffic.

what gives him/her the "right" to expect free traffic.

Shak,

Im new here, you do not know me, nor know what I know.

Will you please make a very large apology on the 3rd when you are proven wrong? Please and just skip the subject for now?

You will see a lot more of me in the future and I DO know what I am talking about. Just take it as an opinion, on the third you can say, "I was wrong".
Ive got inside info. I wouldnt be shooting off like that if I didnt know. Do you think if i had the slightest clue the update wouldnt be the third I would chance making an idiot of myself? I know for a fact its the third. Your entitled to your own thoughts. Dont take this the wrong way, just accept the fact I just might know what Im talking about.

Shak?

I didnt say he had a right, some people work damn hard to get to the top. If some sorta mishap happened, thru google or even thru the owner of the web site, it could have drastic impact on that mans business. Thats all I am saying, placement is now becoming key to some businesses.
Take that placement away, you can cause damage to a business. Anyone else here wanna comment on this?

Oh and one last thing lol... The guy that sells the necklaces for $20,000 is making MORE off the sale of the necklaces than the guy selling them for $30,000 with millions of dollars of overhead.

hanan_cohen, welcome to WebmasterWorld. Cache reverting from fresh pages to older versions is a quite common phenomenon.

I didnt say anything about "FREE TRAFFIC" read back.
I know its hard getting to the top of the ratings in search engines. Of course there is lots of time, and knowledge involved in getting a good rating and staying there. Whether it happened easily or hard to get to the top, the business could have an impact on its ranking.
Especially if the site was suddenly dropped, and especially as yahoo and the other engines are combining with google.

If I am right about the 3rd /evening Atlantic Time,
I want free beer from everyone.

If Im wrong my punishment will be looking like an AZZ.

But I normally don't say something without the backing.
Due to my "marketting tools, information, resources" I cannot disclose where I got the evidence on this matter.
"It was dark and some stranger guy on a park bench told me"

Thats my story and Im stickin to it. Im highly confident in the 3rd I was hoping sooner, but I know it will NOT be later than the third late evening.

If you have inside information, what are you doing passing it along? When you were given this information, did you inform the source that you were going to be blabbing it around the internet to boost your ego?

As for the necklace guy, he used to be in a massive location with tons of overhead. Its guys like that that work work work like he is that end up becoming wealthy easier. (in some cases) Just think of the 200 tons less of paperwork, $$$$in costs of overhead less he has to do. In fact I wouldnt be suprised if his PC took care of it all.
Maybe he just answers the phone and reboots the windows os every hour hehe.

Sheez - first of all who cares when the update is anyway?
Second - if Aceshigh knows when it is - fine. If Aceshigh is wrong - so what?
Testing some theories is alright with me.
