I see some people placing the google search bar on their website. I was wondering how this affects pagerank - if at all?

I work really hard for the traffic I get and if it really doesn't give you higher listings I can't really see the point of adding it.

The last thing I want is all my traffic wisked away by google.

I guess it doesn't do anything, huh? Why put it on your site then?

A service to their users?

The ability to search the site without installing a search engine on your own site?

Hehe, this is what Google's PageRank is supposed to be based at:

If you think something is good, link to it.
I think that's the case with most of the links to the Google Toolbar.
I don't think they think they will get a higher PageRank of something similar just because they link to the toolbar, if they do, the answer is no, you will no get a higher PageRank due to it.
