The file layout is in the form:
- blog.mysite.com/topicname/index.htm, e.g., blog.mysite.com/dance/index.htm
AND
- blog.mysite.com/archives/xxxxxx.htm where xxxxxx is a sequentially increasing number... and this is the home of each individual archive.
Well, crawler10.googlebot.com just came by and got it all wrong!
It was searching for tons of files in the erroneous format:
- blog.mysite.com/topicname/archives/xxxxxx.htm
and of course, not finding anything.
I've not had a single report from an actual VISITOR hitting an erroneous link like this, and I've double checked the relevant pages and discovered that, in fact, all links to the archives seem to be in the form of FULL (not relative) URL's!
What's going on? How can I best troubleshoot this situation?
Should I cry and assume that a confused Google will now hate my blog forever and ever? Aside from doing a messy fix via Redirections in my .htaccess file, is there anything else I can do about this situation? How can I electronically yell "Googlebot, come back!" (the Add URL thingy?)
I'm thrilled to be seeing Googlebots on my site, but it pains me when they're inexplicably looking in the wrong places!
Help, please!
