October/Novemver Update

I have heard many times that a lot of people were shock by October/November (I forgot which month) update where Google has implement a very aggresive spam filter which results in a lot of spammers get drop out from the database.

Can someone tell me what kind of filter do they implement and what kind of spam has they filter successfully?

Actually, the biggest change then was the reduction of importance of PageRank in the algo, and an increase in importance of certain on-page ranking criteria. This resulted in things like PR2 "free-hosting" sites outranking PR6 sites on some searches!
