Hi, I had Freshbot visiting every day for awhile recently. Last visit though was midnight Feb. 17th. Fresh date of Feb. 18th was posted in Google on Feb. 19th. No sign of Freshbot since then. Making severe changes in index page updating and uploading all day as always. BUT: I did forget to call up the site in the Google Toolbar and hit the smiley face. But not sure if that is the problem. Freshbot was loving my major (I mean really major) daily changes on the index page. Keeping my eyes open today in the log. Also getting new solid recip links for Mr. Googlebot's Dance. We ride on page 8 or 9 if no Freshbot visit. Client has the blues today!

I'm seeing an abnormally high amount of Googlebot traffic this month. The IPs vary but today I'm seeing 198.....

Are these the new freshbot IPs?

It has been an awfully deep crawl on a couple days this week. I wonder what the implications of a ton of freshbot visits are. What I mean is that I expect one day that Google will be a 100% fresh index and the monthly dancing will cease. Maybe I'm dreaming but that's my thought.

last sighting half an hour ago: 64's.

What's this about a new IP? Is it a rented IP or is this something new?

OK. I'm losing it. I saw Brett's post and then proceeded to misread something. I am definitely seeing Freshbot at the usual IP range. But the depth of the crawl is very unusual. Today Freshbot hit 14,000+ pages. That's more like Deepcrawl.

Anybody else seeing more Freshbot activity than usual?

Seen the new ips here. They've named them "Deep Crawl".

Resolves to:
crawl##.googlebot.com

taxpod - you are right. Freshbot is digging real hard right now on a PR6 site of ours. That is quite unusual.

But still no new IPīs around.

fiestagirl,

What do you mean by "They've named them "Deep Crawl"." This IP range is usually Freshbot, no?

Brett,

Please elaborate about the new IPs.

This new IP address is a great way for Google to catch all those spammers who are cloaking their pages. Now, if Google change IPs every few months, that would improve search results for sure.

Oh, and I am seeing a ton of hits from 64.68.82.* today.

Thanks fiestagirl. I learn something new every single day on this forum.

I wasn't able to see where the "Deepcrawl" designation was on the record but I'll take your word for it.

This begs the question, why is Google deepcrawling again?

I've recorded 64.68.84.* being used before by Googlebot-Image. 64.68.84.* is part of a larger known Google IP block and it's doubtful that a halfway decent cloaker would be caught by it.

Google IP Blocks

I first noticed the freshbots on my site last week. They're still there. So far I've had

48 visits from crawler10.googlebot.com
49 visits from crawler11.googlebot.com
45 visits from crawler12.googlebot.com

My site is PR 1 so I assume this can only be a good thing!
