San Diego installs a Google search appliance

Seems like the city of San Diego switched to a Google search appliance recently.
The article's a few weeks old, but still interesting to see the price tag, and its a
very positive article, even without coming from Google's own press page :)

Thanks amznVibe, that's some very nice PR for Google. I look forward to the day that my kitchen has Google; then I won't need to print recipes before leaving the office at night.

Heck I need a Google appliance just for my IE favorites!

Seriously though I'd love to see how those things are installed and data indexed. If someone REALLY wanted to know how the google algorithms work, couldn't you reverse engineer their appliance to get some insight? Or do you think the code is different than their public web engine? ;)

I think that it's Google choice of settings that are most interesting. I'd expect the major parameters to be well known already.
