Google and new server

I recently changed web hosts. I waited until a couple days after I had seen the deep crawl on my site. Now freshbot has been all over the site on the new server, but it's returning a bunch of 301 errors. Is this just because of the change in IP address? I sure hope so. Even brand new pages are getting a 301. I double checked my htaccess file and everything is fine there.

One more thing about this 301 situation. When I tried the server header checker, it also returns 301 for many of my pages, but shows the relocation as the same url. Why would this happen? I do use 301 redirects for many of my moved pages, but many that have not been moved or are brand new are returning 301 also. But my homepage is not. Now I'm really worried.

Well, if I keep playing with this long enough, I'll answer my own question. Here's the deal now. I'm typing in the link as [domain.com...] and get a 301 permanently moved, but if I type [domain.com...] then it returns the desired 200 code.

So, what does this mean to us when writing links on our sites? Google is following my directory links but returning a 301 - is she indexing them or moving on? Would it be better if we include the /index.html in our links so she gets the 200 code or does it really not matter?
