in practice, a sounder search engine than Google

In the study design, six key variables were considered that may alter whether or not a potential user may arrive at a target page and/or a target site where that page is located:

For all those Fast fans out there this should be good news. I switch back and forth between both engines, pretty much the best of both worlds.

I liked the conclusion: ;)

Conclusion
Simply put, AllTheWeb just needs to increase the frequency of their robot crawls and Google would have some formidable competition. AllTheWeb could, it seems, give searchers in practice a more efficient service than could Google.

We are thinking of a pool to see how long that site lives.
With google involved in cases in Europe to stop namesake domains, it should be interesting to see it go pr0.

That couldn't be a more accurate description of legal action these days.

I don't think Google would have a legal case here, Brett. There is no way people looking for Google will enter "googlevillage.com".

Wow, they are basing their conclusions on a single, one month old site. Sounds like a wonderful sample.

Google has had all my pages listed every month since the third month, 2300 for february. AllTheWeb has 58, the same number that it has been since November. Even AV crawls 9 times as many pages as FAST.

Is their algo any good? I've tried it a few times, but it has never returned results that were any better than google, and they were often worse since they do not even index the pages I was looking for.

It's the equivalent of trolling, say some inferior thingee nobody uses is better than the thingee that everybody uses. The fact that it is ludicrous just gets it attention.
