Is it? Or is it so sane that you just blew your mind?! (apologies to Kramer on "Seinfeld")
Halloween update, Thanksgiving update (ok, a few hours early), New Year's Day update, Superbowl Sunday update (ok, not really a holiday) . . . so, after Mexican Flag Day Update this month, there'll be Vernal Equinox Update in March (21st), a tough call between Easter Sunday in April (20th) and Administrative Professional's Day (23rd), and the no-brainer in May for Memorial Day update, and so on . . .
It would be good practice for google to update when traffic is at it's lowest, however, and I'm sure that they know when those days/times are.
Probability factor of y is 1:1
Probability factor of w is 1:1
Y = 365 ╝
W = 365 ╝
Y = any day of the week ending in Y
W = any day of the week, subsequent ending in W
Hence the next Google update will commence:
Today, Tomorrow or any day of the week ending in Y

I think the whole point of the "update on holiday" theory, is that there is less traffic on these days... or days like the Superbowl since it gets such a large audience.
I don't think anyone will pull themselves away from the computer on Tennis Day or Polar Bear day.
"Hey Jim, how were online sales yesterday?" .. "Kind of slow, must have been because of Polar Bear Day!" ;)
