Mid-month increases in traffic

They seem unrelated to freshbot and everflux

Since October I have been seeing weekly increases in traffic from Google in every month other than December (The holidays screwed up traffic too much to be able to tell)

These aren't huge increases, but they are in the range of 5% per week, and they add up quickly.

My site is constantly adding new content, but those new pages do not have enough PR to get picked up by the freshbot (I've checked the logs).

The only truly fresh content that adds any keywords that the freshbot would find is my "recent reviews" page with links to every new review uploaded in the last month.

The thing is, that by the time an update happens, the recent reviews page would have almost completely new content anyway. Even though it would change and add keywords over the course of the month, it would also be losing some that are not in the update as it removes reviews from the list as they reach the one month point.

It is not possible to check which searches cause the increase in traffic as last month I had over 12000 different keyphrases and the #1 search term only brought in 0.5% of my search traffic. This month it looks like it will be more like 15000 and 0.4%.

Is anyone else seeing similar mid month increases (or decreases) in traffic?

What I am wondering is, could there be more to everflux than meets the eye. Could it be doing more than adding "fresh" listings? Is it possible that the brain trust at googleplex is working on things like finding new links mid month and giving you some sort of boost till your new PR kicks in at the next update?

Or am I just missing something obvious?

I am starting to wonder about that too, Dave. If the URL hasn't been in Google, then the Fresh listings seem able to act in a very similar way to normal listings with the backlinks taken into account.

I haven't been able to tell whether a fresh or mod-month crawl can boost a URL that's already in Google when new, high PR links are found.
