Does google have rules against interlinking?

A friend of mine uses interlinked pages all over his site, while still keeping the rest of the page up to par with Google's submission rules. A different friend told me interlinking pages on a google submission was a big no no, but said that if Google were to find you, instead of you finding them, then interlinking pages wouldn't be violating their rules. What's the real rule here, and is interlinking allowed?

No problem. You're expected to interlink pages on your site.

As to interlinking or crosslinking between related but different "sites," the best bet is to use the site search link above. Search for...

interlinking
inter linking
inter-linking
crosslinking
cross linking
cross-linking

...and any other variations you can come up with. You'll find a lot of different opinions on all sides of the arugment.
