Google Update simultaneous w/ PageRank?

Google Update simultaneous w/ PageRank

Are pageranks changed at Google Update time? Or separately?

Are they continuously updated?

I wonder if Google will ever move to updates more frequently than monthly. In Intenet time, that's a while.

Yet monthly updates are better than we see with most, if not all, SEs.

PR changes during the update.

PageRank updates monthly. Its been speculated here at WebmasterWorld that calculating PageRank for some 3B pages is the primary reason why Google only updates once a month. That is, the PageRank servers are computing PR for a couple of weeks after googlebot has deep-crawled the web.

The new PageRank numbers show up towards the end of the update.

Freshbot is Google's answer to creating an more up to date index.

The FAST and Inktomi update more frequently, but they don't have a PageRank system like Google.

My guess is that the PR calculation must take a lot of time and computing power.

Just adding up and sorting out all the links into neat little piles of info takes some serious time. I wish they would do some of that processing while the spiders are walking around - something to slow them down just a tad. This last crawl, 5 major engines ganged up on the net at the same time. Just seems like there should be some agreement as to "spider time" and "user time". Many of the major road contracts in the cities require night time work to keep the roads clear. We need something like that for spiders.

Nope. The freshbot figure seems to be a good guess.
