My site is becoming very busy on different terms but I have only a limited amount of my own products to sell. Does being an affiliate for other peoples products work and does google object to it?

If the products you could offer from other vendors are related to your own product, it may help in earnigns. Directing the visitor to a specific site (and possibly earning some) is better than not having the right things to offer and have no sale (own or affiliate) at all.

Regarding Google you don't have to worry. Google values content and related links.

Agree that Google doesn't treat affiliate links any different from other links.

There's a forum here on Webmasterworld that covers affiliate programs. That would probably be a good place to pick up additional tips.

My advice: It's not just a matter of slapping up a banner. Finding the right program and presenting it in the right way can make a HUGE difference, seriously. I can run two affiliate links on the same page and see a hundredfold difference in earned revenue. So never stop testing.
