Hey, I just had a hit from googlebot to a unique URL that is only used by one of my ads in adwords.

Can anybody confirm that googlebot takes URLs from adwords?

I was talking with Google and they do not crawl the adwords links.

On the other hand, Google must be getting info from someplace besides URL submissions and links.

A couple of days ago we got a new URL (my-store.com) to go with our existing (mystore.com) domain.

The new URL on a totally new host propagated at around 2 PM on Thursday. At around 2:12 PM we got a 216 Googlebot visit, even though all that was up at that time was a primitive placeholder index.htm page and a couple of link pages.

The domain had never been submitted, never been linked to, never been mentioned in any forums or any other possible sources.

So how did Google know it was there?

The only possible sources I know of would be from the Google toolbar (which we have installed), or that it gets some kind of feed about new domains.

Adword editors can manually trigger the Googlebot to visit your page to check its content and make sure it meets their guidelines. It will look like a regular googlebot visit but it doesn't go into their index.

This has been discussed here many times so look for some more detailed threads.
