should I worry?

A set of recently optimised pages are turning up nicely in Google for targeted searches :-) So far so good, but I notice that the pages listed are from the old URL.

This particular client had 5 or 6 different URLS for their previous site. Since we rebuilt their site, they've re-branded under a new domain name, but they've kept their old URLs. They still work, and they take you to the same place as the new domain name.

But I really wanted the new URL's pages fully indexed.

So right now, I can find pages like

old-domain.com/new-optimisedpage.html

but

new-domain.com/new-optimisedpage.html

is nowhere to be seen!

Should I bother worrying about it, or just accept that eventually Google might fully index all the pages from the new URL?

It's not a good idea to have the same content come up with different domain names. They'll usually pick up on a 301 redirect from the old to the new very quickly; it's the simplest, most effective way to deal with it. Also get links changed from the old URL to the new.

Other search engines aren't necessarily that quick with them, but it works.

I have a very similar question, regarding URL's in Google.

Originally, Google found my domain through links to "mydomain.dom", which is now indexed. But, I had actually wanted my domain to be indexed as "www.mydomain.com". Note the "www" in the second name. So, I changed the inbound links to include the "www", about a month ago, thinking this will fix my mistake.

(1) Will Google start listing my domain as www.mydomain.com? Or will it continue to list only mydomain.com?

(2) Will it start listing both? I do not want this.

(3) Is there anything I should do, to avoid any possible problem?

Thanks in advance. :)

Welcome to the board, Still_Waters.

You can do a site search for mod_rewrite (see navigation top of the page), that will fix it in case there's a lot of linking to you both ways. But if it's been changed in links and you stay consistent, there really shouldn't be a problem.

Marcia, thanks for the welcome! :) I've been lurking for a couple of months, and I'm hooked. WebmasterWorld is an incredible resource. I've spent a good year or two, reading everything I could find on the Internet, regarding SEO, and WebmasterWorld is head-and-shoulders above all the other sites that I've found. Over the last two months, I've been modifying and developing my site, incorporating the new knowledge. Now, I'm very eager to see what Google thinks of my efforts. :)

Back to the topic. All the links have been changed to "www.mydomain.com" and I will be careful to stay consistent, moving forward. Thanks very much for your speedy response. :)
