Side topic split from:
[webmasterworld.com...]

it is a good one but there is one item there which is "

G) Outbound Links:
From every page, link to one or two high ranking sites under that particular keyword. Use your keyword in the link text (this is ultra important for the future).

My understanding based on the forum discussion is that this does not help.
Can anyone validate this?

Thanks

At this time - no, can't confirm nor deny. I still think it is important to be prepared for this eventuality. Clearly, Teoma and WiseNut are using it as 'context' and a sort of site q&a. It would be very easy to inject a, albeit minor, amount of site and link classification assurance by checking outbound links.

On the other hand, your visitors will enjoy it. There is also the possiblity of a hand check. Lastly, it is great at building relationships with other sites. Send them a few referrals - share the wealth - never be afraid to link, even to the competition at times.

Ok if this is a stupid question I'm sorry, but why would you want to link to your competitior? If you sell blue widgets, and someone has come to your site to buy blue widgets why give them a link to go somewhere else and buy it (if they wanted sky blue widgets and you only have navy blue widgets maybe). I don't see Amazon linking to Barnes and Noble.

graywolf,

if you sell blue widgets for 10$ and your competitor sells the same for 15$ it even may help your sales if you link to them! ;-)

Actually I've just started experimenting with this, I've always believed that it will be an important feature but never found the time to do it.

If I make any interesting discoveries in the coming months I'll report back. It has to be the best method of getting useful reciprocal deep links anyway - already paying off for me within a week. :)

Yidaki is right on the money, even if tongue in cheek. The best advertisement for my site is the site's of most competitors. I'm not afraid to link to any of them and I don't see why anyone would be unless their competitors offer a better product/deal/content than you, in which case make your site better.

<edit>but the main aim of linking I think is to link to quality semi-related sites<edit>
