Linking Strategy (that I've yet to read about in Webmaster World)

Smart, Stupid, or Worthless?

If you have Site A and Site B, and both sites have relatively strong PR (6+) as well as relatively unique backlinks, would it be of value to create 1 or more link pages on Site A containing links to the Site B backlinks as well as 1 or more link pages on Site B containing links to the Site A backlinks? Hopefully, this would raise the PR of the backlink pages an indefinite amount and strengthen each site without crosslinking.

Intuitively, this makes sense and doesn't clearly violate any of the well-known "don't do it" rules. However, I'd like to hear other opinions.

Sounds dangerous, and like excessive crosslinking to me. If what you are doing seems designed just for search engines, this is risky.

It will just create crosslinked groups of 4 sites.

If your sites are A and B, and external site C links to A and external site D links to B, then:

C -> A
D -> B

If you therefore make a link from A -> D, and a link from B -> C, you end up with:

A -> D
D -> B
B -> C
C -> A

which is just third order cross linking. If you repeat this with sites C' and D', C'' and D'', and so on, you'll create a pattern which is not particularly hard to spot.

I agree, this sounds dangerous!
