Does URL affect page ranking in any way?

Does the sites url have any weighting on pagerank?

Hi,
First post for me here
I was wondering if keywords in your URL
would affect pagerank in any way?

Cheers :D

You ask two different questions.

Does URL affect page ranking in any way? Yes

Does the sites url have any weighting on pagerank? No

PageRank is a part of the algorithim, and keyowrds in thr URL is a different part. Combined with the other hundered factors they determine the final "ranking" of the page in the results.

PageRank is not the same as "rank".

I have made it habit to name my pages after the keyword phrase a user would enter in a search engine to find it. I dont think it could hurt. I would like to know if capitalizing the first letter of each word or putting an _ between the words makes a difference.

Rule of thumb is to use no capitals at all and to use "-" instead of "_".

I had heard the "No Caps" in the past, but started noticing a lot of SERPs with caps in the URL to identify the beginning of words in multi-word page names. I tried it this month and they seem to be indexed fine. Oddly, some of the pages show up twice in the results (caps version and non-cap version).
