Hello,

I'm very new - hope this isn't too off topic... If so sorry.

A couple of weeks ago I built a "Google News Ticker" (Windows Toolbar). I emailed google at their enquiries address to ask them what they thought about it but I've had no response yet (few weeks).. wondering if I should just wait? mail again? give up?

I know they got the mail cos someone at google had it running for a couple of days..

Anyway.. any advice on how to move forward, and what (given my limited description ;) ) people think of the whole idea would be much appreciated!

(Have cut this post back - cos I'm a little worried I'm OT.. Can give a better description if neccasary but that's not quite the point of the post. (Can't really give out the url though cos not sure google would like that?))

Cheerio all :)

If they had it running, and if they liked what they saw, then I am sure they will be in contact.

Did you send it to a specific person, or just a general email for Google?

Sent to a general news.google mail.

it's not particularily polished (or wasn't at the time) cos I was coding in Pico (Telnet) and my perl script that did the updates was having problems with changes in their code..

It must have gone to a couple of people and after a while the server got a hit from their tracking software.. but can't figure out whether it signifies a response or not?

If they didn't like the idea though wouldn't they have told me not to do it, and block my useragent (it identifies itself properly)

:( -?

Hmm, might want to try re-sending. If it's about getting permission for personal use, that can be easier. Business proposals are a little trickier; they take more investigation, and sometimes things just aren't a good fit for what we're doing at the time. Sounds like a fun project though.

Thanks guys,

I will try a quick/polite re-send..

Had some more ideas for it in the shower which I might implement b4 I do so. Plus finish polishing it bit.

Not so much a business proposal, but I can understand there are a million and one brand/commerce-political issues involved in saying yes.. maybe I should ask to swap it for a link! ;)

Cheers for the advice,

:)

Make sure you get a FRONT page link off Google - that Pagerank of 11 can be handy ;)
