What part does the registrar play in Googles algo? Any at all? I've got 5 sites spread over 3 registrars (and 4 hosts), perhaps this is an unnecessary precaution.

There should be no problem. It is "linking" "cross linking" and who you link to that will get you in trouble. Whois information might come into play when a human starts doing some spam checking.

Different hosts is fine but different domain registrars do not play any part in Google's algo.
