Network Outage

How much does it hurt to be down?

Hello,

I am sure I was not the only one to be affected by the network outages last night. Unfortunately, Google was indexing some of my sites at the moment they went down ... and stayed down for 6 hours. Does someone have any experience with the consequence of this? Will it hurt the rankings a lot? Will I end up with a PR0 for a month?

Thanks

Joe

I look forward to an experienced answer. 17 of my sites went down last night also. 4 are still down.

I have heard that outages can hurt. I believe I have experienced with one of my sites prior to this outage.

I had been in number two position for over a year. One day google comes, the site is down, and I'm in the hundreds.

I've been climbing back, but slowly. I'm number 26 now. It's been 4 months.

Brett replied in an earlier post regarding the outage that he thought the crawl was on because Google was hitting hard, he then recanted and said that they only sucked up 3k pages and then stopped. he atttributed as either stopping a crawl or perhaps it was just a 404 page seeker....maybe the outage will delay the crawl because relevancy will be out the window. I can imagine the outcry during the crawl if a lot of top sites (especially in San Francisco where it hit really hard and a lot of major ecommerce sites are located)are down for the count during the crawl and removed from the database.
