I was just checking the right spelling for "authoritative" and forgot I was using Google.nl - the problem is there are so many misspellings on the web Google will always show results.

Moreso, the standard redirect local Googles will not autosuggest or redirect the right spelling for English queries. Rightly so, but I got so lazy in letting Google correct me that I nearly thought I had the right spelling!

I use Google for spelling as well, if it doesnt redirect I go with the one that returns the highest results :)

Why don't you just use www.dictionary.com?

Ben.

I use it too, but I click on the word link in the blue bar to go to dictionary.com. It is amazing how many popular words are misspelled.

One can decide on a usage-based approach of spelling and compare the number of occuRRences (2.6 Millions) vs occuRences (169.000) whatever the "correct", academic spelling is.

By the way can somebody find a word that is actually mispelled more often than the correlative correct spelling?
