I've been working lately on getting higher on serps-
and it looks like a pretty tough job...
My main keyword has 6.2M results- pretty busy.
My site has a pr7.
I started to optimize my site for the keyword, worked hard on it, added it wherever it made sense, improved density, title-ed it, meta-ed it, etc.
I feel like I've done everything possible on the *internal* side (IE, everything under my direct control).
But still- after the last dance, i'm number 50 on the keyword, while many pr5's and pr4's are way ahead of me.
Anyone has any idea where should i go from here?

One thing I've noticed (at least in recent months) for my site:

Blue-Widgets.html -\
Borrowed-Widgets.html --- Widgets.html
New-Widgets.html -/

Widgets html is the page I want to key for the one word term "Widgets". I create three pages about "subtopics" and key them for the words in the name (though I don't really use the name in the title, it helps for the example and may even help for google). So, now I rank fairly well for "blue widgets" and "Borrowed widgets" and "blue widgets". After a few months, I notice that my "widgets.html" file is all of the sudden ranking better for the single term "widgets" as it is the "homepage" for that topic (maybe not the homepage for my site, but for that item, anyway).

Does that make sense?

file: Sometimes the shortest answer is the most powerful.

Dazz:

Try to get some inbound liks with the keyword as the link to your site!
