Expiring penalties at Google?

How do they know when your clean?

In an earlier post Google Guy said that:

But how do they know when your clean?

A. Do they keep checking your url?

B. Once your caught in a spam filter do you just stay there, or do you have to email them and hope to get someone to review your site?

I would guess it to be a mix of the two.

- manual checks

and

- automatic re-establishment, either through a spider type check or through an algo update that neutralises any spamming specific to the pages/sites.

As vitaplease said, a mix of the two. It also depends on how serious the Googlebot perceived the level of spamming. Many expire over a certain period of time. However, do the ones that expire naturally ever return to their normal state without the classic Pageranks of 3/4 on the Index page and 0 on the internal pages?

I'm starting to wonder if it's better to just leave a penalized URL alone and just go with a new URL.

You can be in Yahoo, ODP, Google Directory, Google Ad Words, and Approved for Data feed for Froogle, ALL other major engines (Fast, Inktomi, AltaVista) have all kinds of reputable sites link to you. And still not get back in the searchable Google database.
