Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem. I have a site which has really good rankings with Google and the URL is a .info

This is great but the problem is a lot of uk search engines filter it out e.g. msn.co.uk

If I put up a duplicate site but with a different URL to satisfy these engines then Google will penalise me, will they not?

to protect your .info use the robots.txt disallow google from the co.uk.

But if Google don't see the site nor will anyone else who uses the Google results which as far as I can tell is everyone?

msn.co.uk use overture then looksmart then inktomi backfill

which google backfilled SE are you thinking about.

for instance freeserve where, once you've seen the ppc ads you get google listings but everything that doesn't end .uk is filtered out so excluding google bots wouldn't help me there.

Also if I had two sites with similar contents wouldn't other engines i.e inktomi penalise just the same?

it's only filtered out if you select uk sites only.

The geo filtering will always target uk TLD's first.

Inktomi and dupe content again you would have to use you robots.txt.

I suppose the real solution would be to start building smaller websites which target these search with a link to your main .info or worst case start building a .com or .co.uk.

but to your original question yes, if google and the other SE's find your dupe content you run the risk of get 1 or both sites banned
