A while back there was a discussion about long domain names like xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.com.

I am in an industry where this is common. After the last update I have noticed that no domains over three (seperated) terms are ranking high anymore.

My theory is that there is some sort of new "penalty" on longer domains. It seems three is the cutoff.

For a term like viagra it used to be domains like viagra-buy-cheap-viagra-impotence.com showing up prominently, but across the board they have dropped in ranking.

On an unrelated note, the new Inktomi/Yahoo seems to love long keyword domains :)

Think it might be something more fundamental, like even a single dash in the domain name?

Those that do have a single dash and good pr, had that before the penalty so it wasn't a sweeping thing. But ya, I noticed the double dashed (and more) have seemed to be sliding into the deep end of the rankings the last two updates.

Try a search for france hotels - three are still doing well.

brett, do you mean

www.keyword--domain.com
as opposed to
www.keyword-domain.com?

I'm finding lots of www.keyword-keyword-keyword.com still doing fine, but can't see any www.keyword--keyword.com's around (could be looking in the wrong places)

My findings are that the keyword-keyword-keyword are doing ok, just not the keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword and more.

Of course some are doing well, but I have noticed a slippage in rankings for the most part.

BTW,

I did a search for France hotels and notices some double dashe but no more. For a while I was seeing top results for domains with 4-6 dashes.
