I used no spam techniques, just used keywords in the title, meta, and header tags. I assumed my terrific ranking were a direct result of my link popularity and absorbent amount of content.
Yesterday, my site wasn't even in the top 30 for any of the words I was previously ranked well for!
Anyone have an idea on what happened?
Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!
How long has your site been online (exactly)?
Do you have incoming links to your pages from other sites?
Jim
Here's another thread describing this situation [webmasterworld.com].
If your sites weren't online before the last deep-crawl, you'll have to depend on the freshbot to keep your listings in the index, and it is hit-or-miss. Fresh content, added every couple of days, is probably the most effective freshbot bait you can use until you get fully-indexed by the deep crawl. The next deep crawl will be in about three weeks (assuming the schedule doesn't change). Pages deep-crawled at that time will show up in the index "permanently" at the end of February. Until then, your pages may pop in and out unless you can keep the freshbot coming back every three days or more frequently. Use the time to create more content, submit your site the the ODP, and get more incoming links with on-topic link text from high-Pagerank sites which share your site's theme. Good luck, all!
HTH,
Jim
On my special keywords I rank #1 and #2. At least, after the dance.
Then comes freshbot and my #1 (which is my homepage) disappears. It is substituted by the next ranking page, which last month was my own number 2, but this month is somebody else's page.
Then - and this is NOT at my end - if I push the Google search bar a second time, my pages reassert #1 and #2. In short, my homepage reappears. This happens intermittently across www www2 and www3, on different browsers and systems, and Yahoogle.
It's as if (a) Google assigns less "power"(at least intermittenty) to a freshtagged page than it does to monthly-crawled pages; and (b)you can interrogate Google twice.
