Google in the UK

What proportion of UK searches does it feed?

I want to stress to a client the importance of a good listing on Google in particular. They are UK based and only serve the domestic market.

Does anyone know a source for any recent statistics on UK search engine use, i.e. The proportion of UK users searching on Google, Yahoo, Msn etc....

Many thanks for your time,

Neil

I would suggest that [nielsen-netratings.com...]
Probably comes the closest, even though it has nothing to do with searches but it gives a very good idea of which sites have the traffic.

Thanks lazerzubb,

This is interesting reading and obviously highlights Google's popularity. However, are there no stats that show how Google fairs in comparison to the other search engines in the UK i.e. The percentage of searches it takes?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

The problem with searches is that it's extremly hard to messure, especially since they search engines will not let them place anything on their sites.
So i think that is the best you will get.

Unless of course you capture the data off an ISP's proxy or two, which is what Hitwise do. [hitwise.co.uk...]

It'll cost but they do have stats from about 3m to 4m UK users, we use it a lot, fascinating stuff.
