So far nobody thinks it's a problem to chop - apparently I'm getting to paranoid about Google, PR e.t.c. :)

If each page is focussed on a particular keyphrase, it also gives you the advantage of being able to play with densities and possibly give you a better range of cover in a few search engines, eg:
One page with keyphrase density 14% becomes three pages with densities 8%, 11% and 14%
Gives you some insurance against Google algo shifts, and may also help give you some better exposure in other SEs that like a higher/lower density, while maintaining good positioning with Google.
