Default Google content filters

Google results vs HotBot Google results

When I compare searches on Google and on HotBot-search-using-Google I notice differences which *seem* to be related to the default offensive content filter on HotBot.

HotBot uses the "strict filtering option" from Google by default which means filters are applied to text.

Google defaults to 'moderate filtering' which means filters are only applied when using image search.

[Can anybody confirm the above?]

If Google decides someday to change their default filtering option from 'moderate' to 'strict' this will result in very different serps.

Anybody knows how this filter works because it seems to be failing miserably on my *non-adult* site?

Yes, if Google change to using SafeSearch by default then things will change, but not much IMO.

If you are looking for that kind of content then you'll just turn it off; if you're not looking for that kind of content then you're not likely to be a good customer for that kind of site anyway.

I think that it just works by using the content on the page.
