Last night I had a wee visit from Googlebot:

* User Session 216.239.46.77 - Google Inc. (CA,US)
2003-01-10 09:39:29 - user created
2003-01-10 09:39:29 /robots.txt
2003-01-10 09:39:29 /

In, out and away!

I don't have a robots.txt file as I want Google to visit every page.

Any idea why he stuck around for such a short time? How can I get him to stay a while?

Thanks.

Get more incoming links with relevant link text from high-ranking sites in your market segment, and list your site in ODP.

Frequency and depth of Googlebot visits seem to correlate with your page rank and the frequency of updates to your pages.

Thanks jd.

We have two listings in ODP and a fair number of incomming links.

The weird thing is that I noticed some 8 Jan fresh tags when I seached for some of our key words. When I looked at the cache version it is different than when I go directly to our site and look at the cache from the Google tool bar.

I set up a 'Watch' to monitor visits from 64.*.*.* and 216.*.*.* on 2nd January and there where no entries from Google until last night, yet I had a refresh tag of 8th Jan?

Just have to keep scratching my head I guess..
