MSN showing Google results?

I've just got a shock when I discovered that MSN is sending more traffic to my site than either Google or YahooGoogle! Previouly it was like 5% of Google.

A quick check shows that MSN is showing some Google run results. Does Yahoo purchase of Inktomi got to do with this?

Anyway, its great news...

I'm seeing only Ink at MSN, no Google. I just checked a lot last night and a few now. I'm not seeing anything changed, except some improvements for a few Ink rankings.

MSN is still sending me the usual 10% of SE referrals, serps look very different from Google.

Some sites had 'extra' traffic from MSN last month. It seems to be that some LookSmart results are not showing up all the time. I can't really explain this as these L$ results are now CPC, and I would expect that MSN get a cut?

no,

I put up Google and MSN results side by side and MSN is in no way doling out Google.

I am not seeing anything either. In my opinion it would be a dark day if MSN uses Google for their results.

I'm in Singapore, that's in Asia, btw :)

Maybe this is unique to me but I'm seeing a real jump in referrals from MSN. Not sure if it is related to Google search but seems that its got to do with Yahoo buying Inktomi (just wondering). But how?

I'm using hitbox to check my referrals, not very sophisticated, but what the heck, its free.

No one else seeing this? This is strange....

did we not have a similar posting a few weeks back, and then the poster realised he had been looking at a completely different site.

(no disrespect, but if MSN was using Google results, all hell would be breaking loose, on this Forum and all over the web. I am off to bed now, so if it has happened, find me in London and wake me up)

>>>Maybe this is unique to me but I'm seeing a real jump in referrals from MSN.

A jump in referrals most likely means that you have either new pages indexed in Ink/Looksmart/Zeal or improved rankings, not that they are using Google or Yahoo's deal. If I understand you correctly.

Well, lemme restate that some. A jump in referrals can mean they switched results sometimes. But, just from a jump alone and seeing a few sites that appear in Google alone isn't enough to justify it. Many sites appear in the top 10 results on some terms under all major SE's.

My theory is that last month was december and many eCommerce sites hit their L$ monthly cap either sooner. As a result they did not show, more non-paid results on MSN got clicks.

Ink has just done some sort of update at MSN. I had ZERO pages in MSN yesterday and now I'm coming up front page on a lot of my searches.

Ink and looksmart started crawling me quite heavily right after yahoo bought them.

The results are definitely not google.

"I'm coming, Elizabeth, I'm coming.. make room for me honey. Someone said Google results are showing up at MSN. I can't see no good no more honey, and my left side is numb. Lamont, you take care of the business and Aunt Esther... on second thought, you just take care of the business. Elizabeth, make room, I'm coming!"

I can definately report the number of searches performed has dramatically increased at MSN. But it was caused by a huge number of WW members dashing over there to see if it was really displaying Google results ;)

Fortunately there was no truth in the rumour and MSN is still displaying plain Inktomi results polluted by LS and Overture (at least in the western world).

Any increase you have seen in referrals from MSN over the past 6 months is probably due to some increased popularity that MSN has gained, and the fact that Looksmart sponsorship popularity is declining allowing the Inktomi results to get closer to the top.

I guess Looksmart popularity varies by cat, but in my cats I can once again get on page one at MSN for common search terms. Back in August 02 I couldn't get on page 2 because of all the Looksmart sponsors trying to determine if 15 cents per click was really worth paying.

I'm not buying this one bit. Surely MSN would go for a L$/Wisenut comobo or FAST.

Just my 2 cents :)
