Google will simply ignore the word 'about' in a query, meaning anyone looking for their website wouldn't find it by it's title!
I wonder if there's any other sites dealing with this problem... and if there's a legal case to be made against search engines for banning a company name from searches.. If I had an influential search engine, I'm sure Google wouldn't like it if I took out the word 'google' because I thought it was too common :)
(p.s. sorry if this has already been discussed, but the word 'about' was ignored when I tried searching the forum)
.. only seems to ignore 'about' when it's not the only search term..

Even if About.com were being excluded from Google searches, it would have a tough time proving that its "company name" was being banned. Google can't be expected to modify its algorithm for the convenience of companies that choose names like About, A, And, or The. :-)
In any case, About.com is doing very nicely in Google. Its tqn.com and miningco.com mirror domains haven't been banned, and its redirects from nonexistent pages (and, in some cases, from nonexistent guidesites) continue to slip past the spambot.
