I have noticed that none of my links from DMOZ are showing up in the backward links pages of my sites. Does any else notice this? Any thoughts...

To see it, your link must be up at DMOZ on the last deep crawl, which likely to had happened very early of december 2002.

I've noticed a load of backward links vanish after the last update and yes the page PR is 3 or higher

P.S these links are not from Dmoz

Tigger,
That is exactly what I am talking about... we have had links in DMOZ and other places with page ranks of 3 or higher, and all of a sudden our backwards links according to Google have dropped from about 290 to 48.

What's the cause?

hakre, backward links are links that show as pointing to a site at Google, generally seen when searching for link:www.example.com

Not all show, and generally they won't if they're less than PR4.

I noticed this too. I had a total of 8 links, all from PR4 or above pages disappear after (end of Nov) a previous dance. Still no idea why. I alos noticed in searching other sites backlinks that yahoo and dmoz listings are not being listed on the first or second page, but instead are almost dead last in the list. My yahoo link is dead last in my backwards link list. I read somewhere once the backwards links are listed in order of importance... guess that ain't so anymore.

I just had a good look at mine, (there aren't many). It appears that they're listed in order of:
1/ domain name, in title or text of backward link.
2/ occurences of <title>keywords</title> in the backward link title or text.

For me that puts the Google and Dmoz directories about halfway down the list.

That was never the case. Google has always shown the back links in a random fashion, as far as PR rank goes.

There may be some criteria google uses to sort the back links - But I don't think anyone has thought it important enough to investigate.

I guess that just proves the point, "don't believe everything you read."
