Hey Guys and Girls,

Seams two of my currnet sites each with over 75 or so backlinks went google toolbar grey? I understand that it is still very early in the update process but feel that I am going to be stuck with two sites with no pagerank this month?

I have also understand that when google bans a site the toolbar goes white and reads " 0/10 " instead my bar looks like a new site would with a grey bar reading "google has not ranked this site".

Any ideas what this is? Besides it is too early to tell with the current update?

I have the same problem - I have a site that went from a PR5 to a grey bar. Can't tell if I've been penalized?

I would wait a while. Things can be in a great deal of flux during the update.

I am very confused. The article Google Dance - The Index Update of the Google Search Engine [dance.efactory.de] describes what seems like an orderly linear process: The new updated database is sequentially loaded onto the various datacenters, and the only instability is that searching "www.google.com" will get you responses from a random server which may, or may not, have updated.

The wisdom of this board, however, points to a much less orderly process, in which anything can happen. GoogleGuy has just confirmed it himself:

Things can be in a great deal of flux during the update.

I understand the linear process, it makes sense. But apparently it is not what happens. Is there an explanation for the apparent chaos that surrounds the dance?

IMO it is a "much less orderly" process, and PR on the Google Toolbar(IMO) is the last thing to fully update.

I would not "trust" a Toolbar PR rank for atleast another two days.

Still no change, bad feeling about this month although I think chances are good these sites will come back next update.

My fingers still crossed.

No changes here either. I'm really curious whether the grey bar indicates a penalty or simply the possibility that I got left out of this index.

I had the same thing happen 2 updates ago. Grey bar for awhile on several sites but I ended up being fine.

Don't feel alone but I'm hoping as GG said it's a case of everflux. My site, depending on when I check it, either has positive PR or is grayed out. I also sometimes have a cached page - other times I check it's as if my site doesn't exist. I feel I'm in good graces with Google - I had a fresh date of 31 Dec 2002 and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will settle down. I know the servers are bouncing around. One moment I'll do a keyword search for a position last month I held 1 and 2 and it's there, and the next time I check again it's totally gone. I've never had trouble with other updates and I hope it's going to work itself out. I was getting freshed most every day or two and the Google bot still visits quite often. I spent lots of work updating my site last month and I'm sure I haven't done anything to irritate the google gods - heck they should be happier with my site now. I'm not showing any back-links either. I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone in my position but I can't help but wonder if Google isn't having some problems with this update that they are not letting anyone know about. I don't need this kind of stress in my life GoogleGuy. Good luck everyone
