The update for the web is comming real soon believe me, you can view the updated directory on
[directory-ex.google.com...]

So you can click on the normal google directory and just ad -ex to it, and you will see the new figures.

P.S mods, had to add google update to the title ;)
You may change it if it causes to much exitement.
But believe me it's comming very soon (the web update), it's just something i've learnt :)

Old [directory.google.com]

NEW [directory-ex.google.com]
You see it quite quickly in this category

Both look the same to me also, but different from immediately following the last update. I hadn't checked it in the iterim. If it is a sign of whats coming all I can do is :) :) :). Don't know about the rankings but my pr stayed and all others in the category dropped.

Any kind of time frame Lazerubb (minutes, hours, some time today, should I go to sleep?);)

I have two sites with new DMOZ entries that aren't in the regular or -ex google versions yet... hoping it happens!

The directory itself haven't been updated, it's only the PR values in it, and therefore you will see different rankings in the directory, look at the links above, view the categories and compare them, and you will see what i mean.

I would say we will probably not have to wait to long before the Web update is comming, hopefully around a few hours (1-8), or it might take up to 2 days, i really don't hope it will take longer (because otherwise, i have lost it ;) )

It's a shame, what they do? update the file from 3 months ago?. Is this why we have been waiting? so we could see UPDATED OLD results.

They must be really happy now.

The update of the Google Directory from ODP is not concurrent with the Google update. It can take a long long time. Congratulations on actually getting two sites into the ODP however.;)

lazerubb,(or anyone) do you remember the thread about the directory which discussed the two images that make up the pr graph to the left of the listings? I want to find out if I've moved up.

Yes I see the changes to PR in my directory. We stayed the same, but it looks like a lot of sites lost PR.

Is this the new determination of 'Start of the Update'? If so, and if not, great find lazerubb. Perhaps GoogleGuy could shed some light although from all the speculation he's apparently busy trying to figure out how to spend all the money from the impending IPO while on his upcoming vacation.:)

Ok I did the math. Average site PR in my directory was 3.5. Now it is 2.9 a drop of about 18%. Maybe a tougher link strategy? We stayed the same, but I was linking like crazy to try and up the PR..

I am seeing a drop in PR for my own site in the directory :( But I always thought PR was calcuated during the dance. I guess it wouldn't though as its going to find links during the crawl. Is this correct Lazerzubb or could this change?

Nope PageRank doesn't change after the update have been done (not that i know of anyways)

PageRank is only calculated once every update, then they can tweek their algo so you will see different results, but the directory will probably not change anything, it's only the web index.

A have little more stuff on the -ex PR that perhaps one of the wizards here can confirm. I am already a little to intimate with links in my competitors sites, but I would bet the reason the guys who just got whacked was a decrease in the value of internal linking. I.e. Very few external links on the sites that lost the most PR.

Holy Mackerel! - I was hoping for a pr 5 but I think I got myself a pr 6. Can't tell for sure but that is what it looks like.

The most predictable update in the history of Google and it's still driving me nuts.

Thanks a bunch lazerzubb, your link helped me to confirm a rise in pr4 to pr6.

<added> It's a pr 5, not 6. Still better than it was.

Maybe we wil all have to redefine our understanding of what a Google update actually is.

The Google directory does not tell me anything significant. My larger changes would be with websites that are not in the directory yet. (They _are_ in dmoz.) I'll have to wait for the SERPs to change.

In the meantime I'll keep tweaking my new CSS-based design. ;)

Has Google ever updated PR without an immediate update following?

Normally the dance starts well before a visible change in PageRank (remember that the Toolbar normally retrieves it's PR values from their main site - www). Also, site linkage has to be determined before you can calculate PR, and a change in inbound links is the recognized standard that the "dance" has begun (as opposed to everflux).

My guess is that Google may be testing freshly-calculated PR's on a test version of their directory first, in preparation for the update. The fact that you only observed these changes on a specific data center would seem to confirm this.

If they have finished calculating PR, I would expect the dance to start soon (once the hangovers have cleared-up ;) ) If not, watch for a possible major algo change.
